Some owners of Philips Hue smart bulbs are reporting that their lights are randomly turning up to full brightness despite being set to dim.

Philips Hue parent company Signify is reportedly aware of the issue, which is apparently related to the Matter interoperability standard, and says a fix is coming as soon as next week.

"After extensive analysis, we have identified an interoperability issue with the Matter smarthome standard, in which random temporary radio traffic disruptions are incorrectly recognized as legacy switch power toggles, turning low brightness lights to full brightness," a spokesperson representing Signify told The Verge. "A permanent fix for the issue is in progress and will be rolled out within the next week," they added.

It's unclear how many Hue bulbs are going rogue and turning up to 100% brightness, but Signify says that only "a small percentage of users" have been impacted. If you're one of them and you don't fancy putting up with the random brightness changes, Signify suggests that you temporarily disconnect your Hue Bridge from your Matter smart home system until the fix arrives.

It must be the Nosferatu exploit

I’ve got all of the lights in my further and most room doing this and they’re mostly light strips

None of the others appear to do this and it’s absolutely absolutely annoying

I’ve really gotten to being disappointed with Hugh and Philips or I don’t think I’ll ever get these ever again after so many issues

How can I tell if my Hue bridge supports Matter?

What does the article mean by "disconnect your Hue Bridge from your Matter smart home system"? Mine is connected to a HomePod mini. How do I know if my HomeKit is using Matter?

My color bulb in the office turns back on after shutting it off, always resetting the color to warm white. I hope that this is the same bug and they fix it. It's been going on for a few weeks now.

I got 10 hue bulbs in active use and this never happened for me. Honestly I also never do anything with the bridge. No idea if any of this updated at all since I bought it, but why mess with something that works? It turns on, it dims, it changes color temperature. Happy camper.

Mine worked perfectly a year ago before Matter came in. I never touched bridge but unfortunately it got reset after electrical work and now have to live with Matter

Still no bugs showning on my 50 year old analog electric lights.
Ditto. I really don't see much reason to have Hue lights in my home. Complexity for something that is really supposed to be quite, quite simple. Can we put "fussing energy" into fussing with something else? :)

From memory there was an update to the Hue bridge to support Matter. I updated to that although I don’t have any Matter accessories currently.

One of my living room lamp bulbs is doing the same. Where I turn it off in the app it switches immediately back on. The strange thing, it only does this if I turn it off after 11pm. If the light is off before 11pm it stays off. This has been happening a couple of months. I've checked for timers in the app and none are set.

I also hope the fix they release fixes this as well.

All of my Philips Hue hardware has been working solidly recently, the same as it has for the last 8 years or so.
Good to see this particular issue being investigated speedily.

Feel sorry for your electric bill if you're using 50 year old analog electric lights.

Never had an issue with my Hue Lights. Still don't. Got them when they were first announced and maybe had a couple hiccups in the beginning but they are rock solid. My whole house is automated. Lights come on, go off, dim, etc daily on a schedule. Haven't touched a lamp in 9 years

I have the same issue - one bulb, turns back on when turning all the lights in a room off at night. Somedays it happens, some days it doesn't. Needs to be turned off 3-4 times to get it t stay off. I believe this is a known issue, but the only fixes I've seen are to unscrew the bulb to power cycle it. Didn't really do much to help me.

You weren't responding to me, but I'll add:

Analog electric lights include fluorescent tubes. Quite energy efficient and unlike wifi/bluetooth operated bulbs, they truly can be totally off when off.

I've noticed that my Hue bulbs are behaving strangely lately, sometimes turning on or off when other bulbs are being addressed, or coming back on after being turned off.

Bluetooth and Wifi bulbs can also be totally off when off, using the same mechanisms as fluorescent bulbs.

I did an update last week now my strip light won’t connect to my Alex dot anymore anyone got any ideas, I don’t have a hub as it worked before but not now, the app works fine but it just won’t connect the Laexa, is there a reset that I need to do?

I've not had any issues yet with my Hue bulbs. They're all linked to Homekit and I've updated the bulbs and Hue bridge to the latest.

What I haven't done, and was never asked again, was run that Homekit architecture upgrade which was an option from about a year ago. I've no idea if that makes any difference.

We need more smart stuff. These bulbs are so smart they know when to ignore user settings!
