Phone bricked updating to IOS 8.1

I just updated my IPhone 5s to IOS 8.1 and I think it bricked. After it downloaded all I get is the Apple symbol on a black screen and every few minutes the screen turns blue then goes black and then back to black with the apple symbol.
Anyone else encounter this problem?
Any suggestions?

Your phone is not bricked. Bricked means the phone is completely dead and won't even power on.

Have you attempted to get into recovery mode and reset your device? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

I posted my question at the same time you posted so I had not read that until after I posted as it was not there when I was writing my question.
