Phone calls and text messages on ipad

Has anyone faced any problems when connecting an ipad to an iphone to make phone calls and text messages? I have an ipad mini 2 and in iphone 5s, both on ios 8.4.1 and the ipad can make calls and send texts with no problems. The problem that i have is that every time i text to my girlfriend from my iphone, she gets my messages with a certain delay. I can send her a message now and she might get it after one hour for example. I only text her from my iphone and she has an Android phone. Could the problem be that the ipad is linked to the iphone?
 
Making calls and sending texts through linked devices are under two different settings. I can't remember if mine was defaulted differently, but check under your Messages settings to make sure "Send as SMS" is switched to green on your iPhone.
