Phone doesent automatically switch from edge to 3g

anyone else have this problem? I have3g on and my other iPhone would switch right to 3g in a 3g area but this phone I have to turn airplane mode on and off in order for it to switch to 3G.

mine switches some time to edge and back but not durning a call it drops it before switching to edge . some times i have to force it to switch bac to 3g
