This has got to be the most frustrating thing about Apple Maps & the iPhone. I am driving down the road, and I take a call (using the steering wheel buttons, using bluetooth, or even answering using an AirPod in one ear), the call screen takes over the map, not letting you know where to exit or where the turn is! Is there a way to make it so the call screen doesn't take precedence over the map? They should make the map absolute priority! Now couple this with Face ID to just get the map to come back up up during a call is a driving disaster!

Normally you can press the home button to get to the springboard then select the app you want to go to, or just double click it to select the app you want to go to.

Not sure how that's achieved using the iPhone X and higher though.

Short of that not working though, you'd have to jailbreak to get Callbar which allows you eliminate the phone app taking over.

If the phone is unlocked, you should just be able to swipe left and right on the home bar to switch between apps including Apple Maps.

Only works if the phone is unlocked, which is next to impossible to do while driving, as Face ID doesn't work, and on top of that, my password is alphanumeric.

TBH, I use Google Maps & Waze. I wasn’t aware that with Apple Maps, that the map is displayed on the phones screen while the phone is locked... is that what you’re saying?
