So, sifting through the reviews of Spigen cases for the new phones and I come across this:

That's... total BS, right? I have never heard of anything like this happening before, but it definitely gave me pause before using one of these cases. Their Ultra Hybrid T is one of the only ones on the market right now that covers the Camera Control and I have had one on backorder since launch.

Ugh. Amazon reviews are almost as bad as reading YouTube comments, it feels like your IQ goes down from reading them.

No, it's not a thing. MagSafe has been around since the iPhone 13 and there are a ton of cases on the market with magnets built into them. If it was a thing it would be widespread, everybody would know about it, and the case manufacturers wouldn't be building those cases anymore.

Anecdotally, I have a Caudabe Sheath on my 16 Pro, which has magnets built into the case, and it hasn't "demagnetized" my phone or had my GPS transport me to some weird place. Prior to that I used a Speck Presidio2, which also has magnets built into the case, and it didn't do it either.

Amen about it being almost as bad as YouTube comments. Not sure why I feel compelled to investigate this sort of thing even if it's obviously suspect.

If you read through the "iPhone 16 cases" thread at the top of the page, I see a number of people using the Spigen Ultra Hybrid cases and nobody has complained about their phones being "demagnetized" by them. And there are some of the pickiest and most detail-obsessed people in the world in these forums, so if it was happening somebody would have experienced it and talked about it here.

Actually, the iPhone 12 introduced MagSafe. I just retired my iPhone 12 Pro, which had a Caudabe Sheath with nice, strong magnets for MagSafe. I used that case for years. And every time I used GPS, it was 100% accurate. If it weren't, right now I'd be out in my car, totally lost (probably near the Heinz factory). 🤣
