I purchased an iPhone 11 Pro Max from Apple two years ago. I told them I was a Verizon customer and they installed the SIM card and let Verizon know I had a new phone. I paid for the phone up front. Now I’m getting ready to order a new iphone 13 Pro Max and I would like to give my 11 to my granddaughter. She does not use Verizon. Can I do this without a lot of hassle. I think my phone is unlocked but I’m not sure. What do I have to do to give this phone to her and not create a major problem for her or me.

Settings>General>About>Carrier Lock

If it is unlocked, you should see "No SIM restriction". If there is, you'll need to contact Apple since you paid upfront for it and it should be unlocked.
