I live in Japan and it seems that for iMessage I need to have local phone numbers (phone numbers of people in Japan) in long distance format (for example starting +81 80....). If I enter the person's number in local format (ex. 080-555-5555) it is not recognized in iMessage.

I've been playing around with this and can't seem to find a way around it.

Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

So why is this an issue? I have put 1 in front of all my numbers anyways. My only suggestion is use their iTunes id... Otherwise doubt there is an easy fix for this or people working to fix this
