A contact just sent me a screenshot of another phone line impersonating me via messages. It appears to be a scam where they are phishing for information from others. The contact who shared the screenshot of the conversation with the impersonator was someone I recently met and the number impersonating me (by first and last name) appears to have an area code from a municipality on the other side of the country from where I am located in the US. I contacted my carrier and let them know. I am changing my iCloud password now. Can anyone in the community offer additional advice?

Thank you.

Was it an iMessage (blue) or SMS (green)?

iMessage has the option to share a name and photo when sending messages. The person impersonating you isn’t using your number so your Apple account is most likely safe. They’re probably phishing for information.

It was an iMessage (blue). As mentioned, I changed my iCloud password, immediately. I am going to run through Apple's suggestions in Safari preferences for passwords it indicates are weak, or may be compromised, and make changes there. The phone number (sender) was not mine and there was no photo shared. It was simply a message from the other number (sender) to a new contact of mine stating, "Hi, this is (my first and last name). I need gift card codes from you [some phishing statements along those lines]." Followed by more attempts with my first name attached to them again.

I'm relieved if this is not clearly indicative of someone having access to sensitive/personal information, but glad to hear from anyone that might have further suggestions or insights. Thank you for your response.
