Phone numbers missing!

I did a Sync yesterday and now many of my contacts are missing their phone numbers and they are gone from my MacOS Address book.

Is there a way to just recover the contacts from a back-up on the iOS4?

Just so others might benefit...

Not sure why this happened, but I restored the Address Book from the Address Book files in the System Library/Application Support using Time Machine and then resync'd to get them all back. That was the only option I could think of. Would love to know if there is a cause to the issue.
