Phone volume of iPhone 4 vs 3GS?

In any kind of even moderate outside background noise I cannot hear the ear slot speaker on the 3GS. I almost always have to go to speaker volume. Music playback is great-why not phone call voice volume? Maybe its just me?

Is the iPhone 4 any louder volume?

The speaker on my 3GS was pretty weak. Its better on my 4, atleast it sounds better to me.

thanks. That helps some. ATT has offered me a free iPhone 4 to re-up for another two years.

I am thinking about it. The 3GS is a good phone tho!

To me, the volume of the iPhone 4 does seem lower than the 3gs, BUT when you put both on blast, the audio quality of the iPhone 4 is more crisp and clearer

My friend has the 3GS & I have the IP4. We tested them and there about the same in loudness..

I can't speak for the earpiece speaker, but the bottom speaker on the iPhone 4 is noticably louder than the 3GS.
