That is the whole idea. Userland jailbreaks require the phone be activated first, then you JB, then you UL.

yesyes i know
but a phonebook sim would work?or does it have to be a working real sim?
i've always just had to ask a friend for his att sim
it'd save me some trouble if i didn't have to borrow his sim...even if it's only for a minute

That particular phonebook sim is hard to find and costs about $20-30
You have to get it online and if you dont get the right kind you're stuck.
Find someone with an old inactive AT&T simcard or buy a gophone sim and those will also activate any iphone.
Or use a friends for a minute, up to you.
I got like 6 old inactive AT&T sims and they all activate the iphone even though they're not in service.

The borrowing a microsim from a friend is not going to work. It didnt work on mine. I finally had a co-worker who just bought an iPhone 4 and asked him if I could borrow it so I can get my phone activated. I popped his microsim sim into my phone and all I can see from iTunes is my phones original owners number and was asking for his zip code and last 4 digits of SS.

I got another few days until my DITS simcard arrives in the mail. If that doesn't work then I might force to sell my iPhone and just bought a used one that is already activated.

Yes, but I dont think the OP is asking about an iphone 4.
Either way once you get over that first initial activation obstacle after that you can pop in any AT&T sim without ever seeing that message.

yeah its for my 32gb 3gs
im waiting for upcoming comex release unfortunately

if its a userland jb i'll have to borrow a friends att sim first

i hate to annoy him like that although i guess i have no other choice

this whole jailbreaking to use my phone is getting on my nerves

Yes, its going to be a userland JB and for sure you will need to activate it first.
But it only takes a minute, just make sure you dont restore alot and need to activate it all the time cause your friend might get sick of it :D
