Phones speaker fine but HP’s out sounds like compressed soup?!

Xr will play .mp3 files on phone speaker but with hp’s thru chrgr. port adapter sounds like compression soup. I’ve used 2 adapters and two sets of cans also. Anyone know of this issue and the solution?

As well as the correct HARD reset steps.
