I'm trying to launch the Photo apps and I get the following error message everytime I open it.
I have repaired a number of times.
My library is stored on an external 2TB drive formatted to APFS. I have backups on another drive same format and still have issues on that drive as well. Also when I have been able to open it and go to settings to choose the external as a system photo library it freezes and I have left it for hours to see if it unfreezes but no luck. Also this message as well.

Hassan69 – ouch, that looks unusually tricky. I'm worried that it indicates some kind of data corruption within the files or library structure. (I'm not sure what you mean by "repair," but I gather that's a measure you've taken to correct data corruption on some level. Repairing the drive using "First Aid" within the Disk Utility app might correct corruption relating to the files and file system, but I imagine it wouldn't make corrections within the files' data.)

I recall it's possible to hold the option key when opening Photos to summon the option to manually choose which library to open from a location in the file system. You've tried this as well?

maybe some basics: which version of macOS/Apple Photos? There might be more info in the console logs - worth taking a look IMHO.

Try: After quitting Apple Photos - restart it while holding down the option-key. In the »Choose library«-Dialogue select the library on the external drive.

Hi, I back backed up the file to another external and reformatted the drive and it worked until i chose the external as the system photolibrary. I'm running Ventura 13.7.6. I had no issues before until there was a power fail over a few weeks ago.
