Photo bug in the "details area"of text messages?

Has anyone seen this bug or know how to fix it? In text messages you can hit details and see all the previous pics that were sent to you by that person. For me the bottom 10 or so pics and the top pics will show up but everything in the middle are empty squares. I have the 6+ restored via iCloud from an iPhone 5.

Pics loaded from older software may not load on iOS 8. It's a strange bug. Maybe it has to do with how the old software handled attachments and the newer software can't locate the images? Perhaps during the backup, the images were deleted but not the placeholder code for that image.
