I have a first-generation 8GB iPod touch. I'm trying to upload a large number of photos to the device, however, I am having the issue that the photos are coming out very compressed on the device- since they feature text, I'd like to be able to have the full image, and I do have more than enough space on the device. Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent iTunes from compressing the files before they are moved to the device?

I believe there isn't - it's to do with the RAM and processor that the touch has - the photos need to be 'optimised' to be able to display on there.

Hm- if I manually shrink the file size (since they're all PNG, there's probably some room) with image programs to my own liking, will iTunes still provide additional "optimization"?
