iPod Photo Ipod pauses soon after song plays

I just picked up a 60 gig photo ipod.

The ipod will just pause after the song plays.
I will play a track, switch the ipod into hold and it
will still pause. I'd have to flip the switch to turn off
hold to press the play/pause button to resume song.

Any settings I need to adjust?
