In Photos when I go to transfer/send an image via email/messages/whatever, I am presented with a choice of sending the image as small, medium, large or actual size. And I am afraid I have no idea what these options are suppose to be. Are we talking pixels, file size, physical dimensions, what? I am never sure which one I should select.

I bring this question up because I hope to send an image to Walgreen's or someone to have a print made. I suspect (but don't know for certain) that the "size" I select to send will impact the resolution of the print. And I would like the print to look nice - clear and not grainy.

Thanks for the help!

All of the above. Each element affects the other. The principal concern being file size. Some email servers may restrict the size of attachments they will accept... at least they used too. If you’re attaching several photos to a single email reducing their size will streamline the sending/receiving process. You should send your photos to Walgreens as “actual size” which should be the same as the original. Those smaller sizes are for when quantity counts more than quality. As for which to use? Try emailing yourself the same photo in all the various sizes. Compare the look and the file sizes. Make your choice.
