Good day!

I am really confused how Photo Stream works.

So I have a couple of questions for clarifications.

First, is it possible to turn off my Photo Stream, yet I can have Shared Stream?

There are times that I download backgrounds for my iPhone 5 from my Mac. To save the background to my iPhone, I open iPhoto and share the downloaded background to my Photo Stream. I created a Shared Stream just for this.

Second, is it possible not to automatically upload the pictures I took to Photo Stream?

I turned off my Photo Stream because it automatically upload my pictures straight from my Camera Roll thus, creating a duplicate of my pictures. No, I don't want to create a back up for it.

Yes, you can turn off your own photostream backup of your camera roll, but still keep shared photo streams on < its what I currently have > (go to settings > icloud > photo steam: turn "my photo stream" off and leave "shared photo streams" on)
