I'm contemplating purchasing a new Macbook to use when I'm on the road. I'm a professional photographer that has two main purposes for the computer. One, to ingest photos via a cf/sd card and do some light-editing using Photo Mechanic and Capture One. I'd also need to be able to tether to my camera using Capture One, backing up the photos to an external drive during the shoot.
Obviously, a single port is a constraint to this workflow. I'm fine with a usb dongle, but have read many horror stories about external hard drives that don't receive enough bus power from the Macbook. What recommendations do you have for both hubs and drives? Here's one hub/powerbank I was contemplating: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014ZO46L...TF8&colid=227A2RJAUD8NF&coliid=I3NRC7BQKUCRYM
I'd like to ensure power-wise that it's possible to both tether and backup, in addition to ingest and backup, at the same time (rather than doing one and then the other).
In terms of ports, the macbook pro is a better fit. However, size and weight is a priority, and given that the macbook pro line is due for an update, I'm not interested in going down this road. In the Windows world, I'm also considering the HP Spectre, though I'd prefer to stay in the OS X universe. Thanks for your help.
