Photos and duplicates!

With iPhoto I had 65,000 images with no duplicates. After moving to Photos it says I have 130,000 photos and I can see many duplicates and triplicates of my older images.(but not the newer ones) Has anyone else had this issue and do you have any tips of how to solve the problem?

Are your photos true duplicate, or are they an iPhoto copy of an edited photo that you made? In iPhoto, it would save the original and create a copy to save any changes made.

As I hardly ever edit photos this is not the reason.

My wife is having the same problem on her computer. I had no issues with the upgrade. Now she has all photos duplicated
