Photo's and thumbnails

Hello all,

I am using Photos and storage is on a NAS drive. Overtime I open Photos the NAS drive its very busy, and I think this is because Photos builds thumbnails of each picture in the library every time one opens Photos.
Is there anyway to prevent this? I am concerned for the life of my hard drives in the NAS.
