I have switched to Photos on my iMac - OS/X 10.10.3 beta (already done so on my phone and pad) and am currently trying to find my marks in the app. My iPhoto library of some 11000 pictures, about 33Gb, has been uploaded and is migrating to my iPhone and iPad currently, eating up the storage...

I turned on 'Optimize iPhone Storage' to save space on the phone but I wonder if the FULL version will still be downloaded when I edit a picture??

As well, what happens to pics I take on the phone? Smaller version remaining on the phone and full version uploaded or what.

This is not yet clear to me and I would appreciate some further explanations.

1) Pics are downloaded in full when viewed or edited.
2) New pics taken on your phone are stored in full size locally and iCloud.
3) After a while the local full versions will be replaced with the optimised versions. We don't know how this works exactly but people have been saying after 30 days it's starting to clear space, or when space is getting low.
