Photos app - does import move or copy?

I currently have all my photos in regular folders, managed by Lightroom and I'd like to keep it that way.

However, having a copy of all of them in the new Photos app/iCloud seems sensible.

So, if I were to choose the Import option on the new Apple Photos mac app, does it move or copy them?

Just seen that there's a copy/move option in Preferences.

Next challenge is how to get everything copied to iCloud when there's no room on the HDD for two copies.

It doesn't make two copies, it just links to the original files

I don't think this applies in his case because he is not importing from iPhoto.

I believe it does, I have set it to not copy the photos and yet I have a pretty big photo library (it looks like one anyway)
