Photos App downloading very slowly

Hi,

I have just purchased a new Macbook (2016).

I have like 4000 photos in my iCloud and the Photos app is currently downloading those pics, but it seems to be downloading very slowly. Is this a known problem or is there any way to speed up this process?

I also tested my internet connection and it is at 100 mbit/s, so this shouldn't be a problem.
