I'm having to yet again return a M1 Macbook (the Pro this time) due to issues with display but one thing that bothers me App wise is what Big Sur has done to Photos.
On my original macbook air (2015 non-retina) I use Mojave, which has made a world of difference in how I can view pics in the Photos app. When I upgraded to Catalina, I immediately had to take it in to be downgraded back to Mojave for several issues.
I hoped these issues would be fixed once Big Sur came out, but once I used it on the M1 Air and Pro I tried out, I noticed a huge issue.
1. The zoom-in/zoom-out feature is completely messed up. It often times gets stuck on a picture, so even if you manually move the little bar to try and adjust the view, it remains totally zoomed-in. I've tested this with several pictures and couldn't find a solution. I'm not sure if this is a problem restricted to retina-display models, but I'm not putting Big Sur on my old macbook air, not after the issues I found on the brand new ones I've had to return.
2. Mojave lets you view images in Photos in transparent mode if they don't have a background (aka, it doesn't automatically slap a white background to the image being viewed. I love this because it puts less strain on my eyes and helps me get a more accurate view of the colors.) I will put a photo to demonstrate what I mean (here, have an anime doctor).
Big Sur and Catalina on the other hand, will always slap a big ol' white background... I've looked everywhere in the app and online for a solution, but there isn't any. This is incredibly aggravating. I don't want to be constantly blinded by a white background anytime I look at an image in Photos, especially when I want to do it at night or when my surroundings are a little dark. (I'll admit, my eyes can be sensitive to light, and I'd hate to have constant headaches just from looking at a few pictures.
I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue, or if they've found a solution, but it's one of the reasons I've now had to return both the m1 Air and Pro after trying them out. I can afford to wait, but this is just so discouraging... 😢
