I apparently have a lot of pictures with the same filename in my Aperture library, e.g., _MG_0001.CR2, Canon RAW files. This works fine in Aperture with files stored in different referenced folders and imported as separate projects or albums or whatever it was called.

Photos seems to have issues with these files: the Aperture library opens and converts fine, retaining all photos and metadata. In each of my albums, I open one image and direct it to the correct folder where the referenced files are stored, still no issues and the thumbnails/previews are correct. If I try to edit an image (with the same filename as in another folder), it pulls up that other image (but with metadata for the current image)! So if I track the referenced file in finder, it points to the previous file in the other folder.

Renaming all the images in one folder and importing again doesn't seem to help as Photos tracks the renaming. Probably have to remove all version with that filename in Photos, then rename image files, then import (but then you lose adjustments/edits for these photos).

Anyone else have this issue or have some suggestions?

This could be a major problem for anyone who has used the standard filename scheme out of camera, and have several cameras from the same brand. I had three iterations of Canon: EOS350D, 50D, 5D2...

The scary thing is that the problem is not apparent at first, since the correct previews and thumbnails from Aperture carries over to Photos.. just not the correct referenced file.
