Hi All,

Looking for help solving a mystery. The Photos app is taking up just a little over 8gb. I only have 57 photos 1 and video. None of the photos are raw, and the video is not pro-motion.

What could be taking up all of this space?

Press the Library tab. And scroll all the way down. It will show how many photos and videos there are. Or go to Settings, General, About. Dont forget to blur the IMEI and SN.

You've only shown that you have 57 photos and 1 video in the Recents album. The entire library is obviously much larger.
It’s actually not. I upload all my photos to Google drive basically nightly, apart from wallpapers. These are just my wallpapers and a couple recent images taken.
* If the actual library were much larger, it would be reflected in the first photo I posted, where Apple notes how much space I would save by using Icloud to store my photos and videos.

Thanks and yes, I’m aware of how to look. The numbers were the same when I checked in settings. This is what prompted my post here.

I actually figured (some) of it out last night: Photos in text message threads were taking up several GB of space. When I went through and deleted the majority of them, the Photos total storage size dropped by about 4gb.

The photos attached to this post reflect where it’s at now. It still seems very high, since I only have 250mb worth of pictures and videos on the phone, with maybe another 500mb of photos attached to a single message thread.
