I am in shock. I have a library of about 3,000 photos, and mysteriously, from both the iPhone (iOS 16) and iPad (iOS 15.7) they have randomly disappeared leaving about 600 or 700 of them.

And this has happened suddenly, just like that. I thought it was an iCloud issue, that the synchronisation had been disabled, but... the toggle that activates it has disappeared...?? How is this possible? O___O Where is Photos to sync?

Wheres Photos???

I went into iCloud in the browser and thank goodness they're all online, but locally it's as if they've disappeared when the toogle disappeared.

Has anyone had something similar happen in the last couple of hours?

I'd be in shock too. That's not good, my word! I'm sure you've rebooted your devices, but have you done any other troubleshooting steps?

Reboot, sign in and out of iCloud.
Im shocked. My mac and web have all photos, but both iOS devices suddlenly dont sync with iCloud cause the toogle disappered 🤯
I've contacted Apple, will call me tomorrow.

Very strange🤨
Keep us posted! I wonder if maybe uninstalling/reinstalling Photos would help or maybe reinstalling iOS via IPSW.

I might suggest you try Reset All Settings next.

Ah damn… my bad, sorry! Funny thing is that it‘s available in the AppStore, so reinstalling it should be a possibility somehow, that’s why I assumed it should work that way.

Reinstalling the IPSW helped me fixing some missing toggles in Settings, so that might be an idea? I tried that before I would have done a full reset as last resort…

Mistery solved.

And now double shocked:
My company, without warning, yesterday launched new MDM profile restrictions, including disabling iCloud and Stream photos. So it's not a horrendous bug (thank goodness), although it's a real pain.

At least for those who know that there is that option of reestricciones, and if someone already happens to him where you should look at

Glad you got it solved. It would have been helpful if you had mentioned in your OP your phone was a company-managed phone. That was an important detail.
