This problem is really driving me mad. I've switched from a PC back to a Mac again, the dates on my pc and photos app are correct (I've already checked the metadata and EXIF and the "Date taken" is correct). But when I import them to "Photos for mac" app, the dates are the day the file was copied, this never happened when i used Yosemite (last system i used). I guess it's sorting through "Date created" or "Date Modified" instead of the actual date.

If I use another program like lightroom sorting dates are also correct, only the photos app displays them wrong. How can i fix this? I really love the photos app, but this issue is frustrating. Thank you!

I had exactly the same issue as you when I switched to a Mac a few years ago and it drove me crazy. I searched everywhere for a solution but didn't find one. In the end I purchased a perpetual licence for Lightroom and now use that. I prefer it to Photos.
