Currently I use Google's Picasa for Mac because it can auto import new images/videos into sorted folders on my external HD. More importantly, it can only reference these files on an external HD, and doesn't have it's own huge file like iPhoto did wasting space.

I was hopeful the new Photos for OS X could also import, sort, and then only 'reference' the original files at any location...thus minimizing space.

So under 'Preferences' I unchecked 'Importing: Copy items to the Photos library'. I then imported a new batch of Photos from my SD card. Low and behold it appears the singular Photos Library file is huge, just like it was in iPhoto. It seems like it's size increases by nearly the same amount as the actual import files, which are stored elsewhere. It seems like its basically duplicating the files.

Is this actually what is going on? Or am I missing something here?
