Hi all. I have a Mac Mini from 2007 loaded with about 250GB worth of pix. I just got a Macbook Pro laptop with a 256GB drive so I know all my old pix will not fit. I have a few questions:

Knowing that I cannot do a full import of my old iPhoto because of the size, I attempted to just copy all the pix out of iPhoto by the "show contents" command...all the pictures are organized in folders (these would be the Albums in iPhoto)...I copied about 40GB onto my new Mac and used the Import command on Photos and the Import procedure just lumped them all together and didn't even create Albums/Events out of them. There should have been about 75 Albums/Events.

I looked further in the Photos Help and there seems to be no option to have Photos auto-create the Events/Albums just like they were set up in iPhoto...I'm sure that even though iPhoto creates each Event/Album as a folder on the hard drive, there is obviously some XML file or similar file/database that is mapping it all out...I would have thought Apple would have had the foresight to put a checkbox somewhere in Photos import process that says "treat each Folder as a new Event/Album" but I don't see it.

So my questions are:

1)How can I pull in 75+ folders full of pix and have Photos organize them by Event/Album? Even if it's partially automatic.

2)If there is no way to do #1, is my only option to do 75+ Imports and hence I would have to manually name each Album?

3)Do I just forget about Photos and figure out how to install iPhoto?...all we use iPhoto for is organization and upload ability to Shutterfly. That's it. Literally.
