Photos imported from SD card, where are they stored?

I've just bought an SD card reader for my iPhone to backup photos whilst I'm on holiday. When I insert the card the import option automatically opens and I can select the photos to import. After it asks if I want to keep or delete the files from the SD card (It actually says from camera). After I've done this I can't find the photos on my iPhone, so where are they? I'm using the latest iOS 11 on the iPhone 7, trying to import RAW files.
