Photos Importing Pix From Where ?

Hello,

Have a new iMac.
First time I looked at the Photo App, and was surprised to see that it was loaded
with photos. Presumably these are the ones I have stored on my iPhone.

Is this the most likely source for them ? Other possible sources ?

How do I prevent Photos from grabbing them from the iPhone (or other places) and placing them
on the iMac ?

If you have iCloud photo library enabled, then your iPhone will upload your photos to iCloud, and then Photos on your Mac will download them and sync them. Delete a photo/video on one device, it will disappear from all devices synced to iCloud.
