Photos in iPhoto '09 grayed out

On my sister's MacBook Pro, there are a few photos in a single event that are grayed out as if the files cannot be found. I have tried to rebuild the iPhoto library by pressing command+option when I launch the app, but no luck. Does any one have any other suggestions? And no, my sister is too cheap to use Time Machine.
