Photos in Monterey and iOS16 not synced?

It looks like if you're still on Monterey on your Mac and upgraded to iOS16 on your phone, there is an issue with not being able to see the deleted and hidden album folders -- I even tried unlocking them on iOS16 and they still can't be viewed in Photos on my Mac. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong. Perhaps others have encountered this?

So if I move an item to the trash on Mac, Trash will appear but only show those item(s) moved to trash on the Mac. The other 800+ photos in trash on my phone aren't visible. And even worse, the deleted photo on my Mac doesn't get moved to the trash on my phone. Something definitely seems broken with the syncing.
