I have a long standing problem with my Photos library which I’m hoping someone can help with...

As it currently stands, any new photo taken on my iPhone or added manually is displaying a thumbnail of another random image rather than the photo itself. When you double click the thumbnail the real image is displayed after a few seconds.

I’ve tried repairing the library multiple times without any success. I managed to fix all the incorrect images by selecting everything within the library and rotating it clockwise and then counter clockwise. This fixed the issue with the existing images, but anything added since, by photo stream for example, continues to show incorrect thumbnails of other random images within the library.

I’m at the stage where i’m debating creating a new library from scratch and leaving the old copy as an archive. I’d really like to avoid having to do this if possible though.

I’ve just nuked and paved my iMac when installing High Sierra. I backed up the entire contents of the photos folder to a removable drive and copied it back into place after the re-install. I was hoping it might sort itself out in the process but obviously not. On the plus side I have a full backup of the library so can try pretty much anything to resolve this without risk of loosing anything.
