Hi,

I'm trying to isolate this problem and wonder if anyone else has experienced it.

On MBP 14 running 12.0.1 and in the Photos app it shows all meta data in the info window except the focal length of the lens which just displays a - instead. The same photos when imported to my old MBP running Big Sur show the focal length fine so it is not a camera issue.

Anyone else getting this?

Thanks

Just checked, same. But I can set up a smart folder based on the focal length.

Doesn't seem to be pulling it off RAW files? JPEG's ok, that is my non Canon ones are OK seeing as I only shoot in RAW on the Canon.

Photos is really messed up for me one Monterey.

I have photos from four different Canon cameras in my Photos library. Mostly jpeg but also some RAW. Non of my photos with the Canon cameras shows focal length with 12.0.1.
However, if I create a smart album and filter on focal length, my Canon photos correctly appears.

Very strange; just got an M1 Macbook Pro and I'm experiencing the same thing. Must be a glitch in Monterey/Photos V7 because I don't see much discussion of this on the internets. Hopefully will be repaired soon.

Not fixed in MacOS 12.1, I literally only upgraded immediately in hope it had been fixed.

I've sent in a bug report via the feedback assistant. I haven't got any respons on it yet, though. I hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later.

Shows fine for me. May be specific to the camera model. I remember a graphical glitch issue 5 years ago or so that only occurred with RAW images taken with my Sony camera, other cameras didn't have the problem.

Shows ok for photos taken by my iPhone. So definitely not working with Canon RAW files, what other files is it working / not working with?

Not working for any of my Canon cameras. Doesn't matter if it's RAW (.cr2 or .cr3) or jpeg.
Also not working for some old Olympus digital cameras, Samsung Galaxy S2 and some old Sony Ericsson camera phones. All of which are jpeg.

I can answer my own question now that macOS Ventura has been released; Yes, focal length is now showing again!

yes! 2 years later i am experiencing the same thing... only a - no focal length. i'm updated to monterey 12.6.8 Please help anyone 😩

It never got fixed in macOS 12 Monterey/iPadOS15/iOS15. I doubt it'll ever be. Unfortunate for those stuck on Monterey/iOS15.

I called Apple and learned that the focal length will never reappear on my MacBook because my MacBook which is about 4 yrs old, is now considered “vintage”. My son explained to me that Apple changed a chip in the last couple of years (I forget what it was exactly but it made sense at the time). So unless I feel like giving Apple a couple thousand for a new laptop I will never see the focal length again 🥲
