I've been looking for some photo's from a 6-bit panel to see what all the hubub with color banding and gradients is, but not having much luck. I'm planning on getting a new display in the next few months, and with the price of the 20" Ultrasharp and 22" Dell "standard" being so close it's a tough call for me. I'll be using the display for standard desktop/web stuff, small photo touch up work, home movie editing... standard Mac stuff. I'll also be connecting an Xbox or some other console to it (via the VGA port). So, while color accuracy is important for photo and video work, refresh rate is also critical for video gaming. I'm also not trying to do any pro work, or color correction for printing, etc.

Here's the important thing, for me: I'm slightly color blind (red/green). Not sure how that will affect banding, but it does affect my overall number of potential colors visible. A lot of shades of green all look pretty much the same, and often look brown. I have trouble distinguishing some dark shades of all color from one another as well (I'm the guy who wears navy blue socks with black pants/shoes :p).

So, I'm trying to get a good look at a 6-bit and an 8-bit panel side by side to decide. Trouble is stores is they usually play loops on the cheap monitors that aren't to helpful for me, and the displays connected to demo machine seem to be the nicer ones. So, if anyone knows a forum or a review site where they've photoed some of these TN panels "doing their thing" I'd like to take a look! Thanks!
