I am using an iPhone X with iOS 14.4. Regardless of how I set my photo privacy settings for the app "Tmall" (by Alibaba) is able to view my photos - specifically when I try to use the messaging function in the app. I have tried restarting my phone and reinstalling the app to no avail Is anyone else experiencing this?

Does this mean the app is using some undocumented API to gain access? Seems like a serious bug, given that Tmall is China's most popular ecommerce app and Apple's push for privacy. I submitted a bug report to Apple already

This app is using the new photo picker which is provided by the operating system. The app doesn't have access to your library; when you select photos in the picker, only those photos are sent to the app by the OS.

IMO this is the right way to do it and I wish other app would get on the ball with this. When apps use this feature you never have to give them access to your library and the app only gets what you select.

EDIT: Here's an article about it. It's quite capable and such a great way to do things.
