I have a retina 5k, 27" 2020
8 Core i7
40Gb ram
MacOS 13.5.2

Since upgrading to this machine (from a 2012 iMac), when I try to use the photos screensaver (set to my photos library), the computer spins up a process called: "ilife slideshows (screen saver) system settings" in Activity Monitor. It goes from not active to using unlimited RAM before it freezes and then restarts the computer. My old iMac uses about 200mb for this process, and my MacBook Pro 14" M2 uses around 800Mb. My best guess based on the logs of this, it's downloading the images to be stored for use when the screensaver kicks in.

I can't figure out what's going on. I have rebuilt the photos library in case that was the culprit. No dice.

Thoughts?
