Is there any way to around starting my new phone with a clean profile/etc? I bought a new iPhone running iOS 18, etc and would like to use this transition as an opportunity to clear up an issue I've had for a year or so with my iPhone SE (2016) running iOS 15. At some point things went "weird" and storage used by Photos grew to hundreds of MB and now 1.6GB. That's with no photos on the phone. Just to be clear yes I have cleared Recently Deleted. 0 photos. Also I am not using iCloud, etc. The only thing I have sync'ing is my Music library from my desktop iTunes.
I have iMazing and worked with their tech support, who went above and beyond to try to help me, but we could not find a solution. We tried deleting the photos database through their file system browser, but it didn't seem to make a difference. We even if I did a full reset of the phone and restore, the space usage eventually comes back within 24 hours after restore/sync. At some point I have to move on as I resetting and restoring my phone is both time consuming and of course leaves me with no phone during the process.
Fast forward I now have my new phone which I started with a DFU upgrade to iOS 18.5 and then setup it up as a restore from the profile from a backup of the above. I've been watching it offline over the past few days and Photos storage has grown from ~ 7MB to 10MB to now 14MB (again no photos -- not even using it yet). Nowhere near as bad as the above but still growing for unknown reasons.
As I have some old apps with data that I don't think will be accessible if I try to setup as a New Phone I would prefer to avoid that. At the same time I don't want to bring corruption forward with me. Whatever I do, I want to do it before I move my SIM over and make this my daily driver.
Any ideas?
P.S.One other challenge is that my old iPhone SE has been on life support since Thursday and I can't delay the transition too long...
