I wanted to select and transfer some photos from a relative's digital camera to a folder on my mac for later printing. I connected the camera, opened the jpeg images in preview, and went through them to decide which ones to have printed.
I transferred the images I wanted by dragging the thumbnail in preview's sidebar to the destination folder. I then noticed that some of the pictures I'd transferred had the word "dragged" appended to the filename and the format had changed from jpeg to tiff. There seems to be some correlation with the photos I rotated in preview before dragging.
I then copied the entire contents of the card to my hard disk to burn to CD later, allowing the card to be cleared. I found I was able to rotate the photos on the hard disk in preview without the format changing to tiff.
Can anyone explain this behaviour?
