I'm not sure where in the chain this is happening (i can experiment at home but i'm away), but here's what I'm seeing: I took some photos on my iPhone 5 and synced them to my laptop (to iPhoto) last night. I allowed them to be deleted from the phone, since I use my roll only for photos I haven't synced. Then I decided I wanted 2 of the photos to be in the "family pics" album, which I carry around on my phone. I copied them in iPhoto to that album, RE-synced my phone, and that's that. But then when I was at work this morning I decided to email the photos to someone from my phone and I chose "full size", which is supposed to be original. But it's sending 3 megapixel pics not 8! That, or iPhoto sync photos TO an iPhone/iPad at 3 megapixels, not any higher.
The photos in question have these characteristics:
2048x1536. Camera section says "Apple, iPhone 5, f/2.4, 1/20sec, ISO-320"
