Photos to iMovie - How do I move a video file?

iMovie 09. Surely there is an easy way? I used to drag and drop video files from iPhoto to my desktop then import them into iMovie. But this doesn't seem to work anymore with the silly new Photos application. What do you guys do to get your videos from Photos to iMovie?

Ok.... I can 'export' it to the desktop... But it takes aaaaggggeeeeesssss. I don't get it.
