My dad has an old install cd of Photoshop 6 limited edition, which I installed on my mini (so old it needs Classic

How has Photoshop evolved since then? What are the differences with the newer Photoshop elements?
I really am no PS poweruser, it would be just for basic work on digital photos. So am I good to go with this old one, or am I really missing out on something and should I get a newer version? Thanks for any insight in that matter!!
