I use Photoshop CS6 on my PC for minor graphics work. Is there anything as good that I use on a mac? Just something easy to use, I don't do anything major just add ready made graphics/icons to a photo, resize it etc

Photoshop is available on macOS as well, although with current Macs you will be forced into Adobe's subscription scheme because older versions won't run any longer.

Affinity Photo is a brilliant alternative to Photoshop at a fraction of the price, and it offers a lot of what Photoshop does.

I agree. Affinity Photo is an excellent option.

I use Photoshop (current version running on macOS) in my day job but can't justify the expense of the subscription for my personal work. For that, I've been using Ps/CS4 on Windows until recently. I'm now using the Affinity apps (Photo, Designer, & Publisher) on my Windows machine and have found them excellent options.

There's a modest learning curve shifting to Affinity Photo's methods, but there are several advantages overs Ps's methods in several areas. There are a large number of good tutorial videos on YouTube that cover Affinity Photo well. For me, moving to the Affinity apps was a no brainer, especially at their modest price.

Before making a commitment with your wallet, I suggest you try a couple of freeware apps:

  • GIMP: the old warhorse at www.gimp.org
  • Seashore: a simple image editor based on GIMP (free at the Mac App Store)
GIMP started as a Linux photo editor back in the Nineties.

Both Pixelmator and Affinity Photo will do much of what Photoshop does at a fraction of the price but you should really try the other two first.

Did I mention they are free?

Quite a bit of "add ready made graphics/icons to a photo, resize it etc" does not need ANY 3rd party software at all on a mac: Preview can do those things already.

If you need more than what preview can: I'd suggest Affinity just like others did already.

Adobe CC exists for mac, but well they want a monthly fee.
