I've searched the forums, but can't come up with any answers. I'm cheap, and I'm looking for a free or relatively inexpensive alternative to photoshop. It doesn't really have to do everything that photoshop can do but it should be able to do some basic editing...
Thanks in advance.

Pixelmator is very nice because it is mac only and takes advantage of more Api's which essentially make the program faster and better. However it doesn't have as many features as Photoshop elements does and therefore it's up to on what you want to buy. if you need the features get Elements otherwise Pixelmator is quite similar.

I agree with those that have said Pixelmator. I have Pixelmator and love it. They have their next update in the works (1.3) which is looking real good once it is out of beta. I currently have a copy of the beta and there are still a few bugs they are working out before it is ready for prime time.

pixelmator looks good for what I need. I'll give it a try for the demo period and then decide. thanks all.
