Adobe Photoshop project manager John Nack reports that his team is currently investigating three bugs that have appeared for users of Photoshop CS3 and CS4 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

1. The most crucial of the bugs appears to be unexpected crashing during Open and Save operations, a bug which appears to affect other applications besides Photoshop, including non-Adobe applications.

2. A second source of Photoshop crashes appears to be related to selection of Apple's new "Menlo" font, and so Nack recommends that users refrain from attempting to use the font for the time being.

3. The third bug, which would be classified as an inconvenience rather than a critical application stability issue, is the inability for Photoshop to open images dragged from other applications onto Photoshop's Dock icon.

Nack recommends that users follow Photoshop team members Dave Howe and Jeff Tranbury on Twitter for the latest updates on these issues.

Nack pointed last week to an official Adobe document noting that Creative Suite 3 is unofficially supported on Snow Leopard and had not even been tested for compatibility. After an outcry from users, he quickly clarified that, while not officially supported, Photoshop CS3 had in fact been tested and would run on Snow Leopard with only minimal bugs.

Yep! I knew this was coming, got the save/load bug last sunday and knew that something was gonna happen.

EDIT: Wow, first reply!

The 3rd bug has always happened though, right?
Dragging an image out of a Web Browser into the dock icon never worked before.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

When using eye dropper and try to pin point, it changed to mouse cursor which is annoying. Can no longer drag n drop from web, have to drag to desktop then to psd. So annoying.

That's quite funny… I just experienced the menlo crash bug. It had a symbol I was trying to use.

These sound like issues that should have been picked up on by Adobe before SL was released. Has there been any "SL updates" from Adobe?

So I guess for the majority of us who cracked Photoshop we won't be able to get this update.

For CS4 possibly.....but then again knowing Apple it's best to wait until the shipping version to be sure a fix is going to work.

Adobe officially doesn't do updates to non-shipping products. So all of us with CS3 are probably out of luck.

Although Adobe kind of hints that some of these might be more Apple related than Adobe. I mean c'mon.....why wouldn't PS be able to handle a TT font? Apple must be doing something funky with that font.

It worked for me in 10.4 and 10.5 with CS3. Actually, I do it all the time. :( Too bad.

Adobe probably don't get developer previews because they're clearly not Mac developers.

I mean, look at Flash, isn't that evidence enough?

Throw in “Bridge” and it is case closed. :D

Edit: On a slightly more serious note they'd probably be happier developing for a kind of “Adobe Middleware” that runs on top of any OS. They may even be attempting just that with Air. Sadly for them though it performs even worse than flash.

Ins't it funny that Adobe's software always, and I do mean ALWAYS, crash first? Even when a point update is applied Adobe's software becomes somewhat broken! Isn't it FUNNY?

These issues affect non-Adobe applications as well.

More drag and drop symptoms

I just today noticed that I couldn't reliably drag Word docs onto Word's icon in my dock. I could open them via the file menu, though. Is this a Snow Leopard problem?

I posted this in the Snow Leopard Bugs thread, but thought this might be more helpful. Anybody having problems with multi-touch and Photoshop CS4? I have a MBP 13" with Snow Leopard and I don't have any multi-touch features at all. I even did a fresh install of CS4, and still can't get it to work :( Any suggestions?

Yesterday my Illustrator CS4 did also crash suddenly on the Open Dialog. Never experienced that before (on Leopard) so it has to do with OS X 10.6 :(

I have Snow Leopard and CS3 but haven't messed around too much yet.

Adobe sucks though! :p

I'm really.. surprised that a font could crash CS4?! I mean, you install hundreds (thousands?) of third party ones with no issue.. Then Apple makes one and it crashes CS suite?

Suspicious font!

I have CS that runs under Rosetta. It was working fine until yesterday when I tried to save a file as a JPG. That crashed it.

It's interesting that Adobe purposefully mentions that it's not just their apps that are affected. Maybe all the SL problems are caused by Menlo.
