Hello,

I've tested some performance differences between Photoshop CS4 and CS5. Using a standard test like RetouchArtists speed test action (although on a 12MP file), the results are amazing.

Even when I give both CS4 and CS5 the same amount of memory (2.5GB), the difference is drastic: it takes CS4 2:13 minutes to complete the action and CS5 0:30. When I give CS5 the memory it can handle, its result drops to 0:20.

That's good. Now for my question.

I also compared how long it took those 2 apps to open / save a big file (415MB). The results: exactly the same amount of time, to the second: : 10 secs / 45 secs. As it takes the Finder only 1 second to copy (read + write) such a file, my HD bandwidth is far from being saturated in PS. Also, none of my CPUs is hitting 100% during those operations.

What's the bottleneck, and why is it so long to save big files?

Thanks

Loa
